The Blue Mountains Peace Collective is a community organization advocating for global Nuclear Disarmament and a peaceful, independent Australia. We support other local, National and International campaigns on conflict related issues; Global warming / the Climate crisis, refugees, and environmental degradation. We call for an independent Australian foreign policy to secure peaceful, just, sustainable development in our region.

For Australia signing a nuclear-weapons ban treaty, against AUKUS and for a peaceful, independent future for Australia.

Why hold a Day of Peace?

We need this day: in 2026, levels of violence, social injustice, displacement and environmental devastation are greater than at any time since WW2. The Day of Peace will not end the violence, it will not dispose of the nuclear weapons, but it will contribute to showing our governments how important non-violent solutions to conflict are to us and to the global community.

AND the Day of Peace is a means for our community to become more aware of, and work toward, a Culture of Peace now and for the future: a Culture of Peace that is the 'set of values, attitudes, modes of behaviour and ways of life that reject violence and prevent conflicts by tackling their root causes …’ UN Res/53/243).

The Day of Peace will honour the UN International Day of Peace and celebrate the diverse BM community members and groups who already –directly or indirectly - work A Culture of Peace that is about laying the foundations for just societies that can tackle the root causes of conflicts.

The day will bring peace alive for children and young people through their participation in creative projects, youth-led workshops and panels.

The day will provide skills and strategies for all, with diverse workshops (Rising Tide, Conflict Resolution, song-writing), presentations (ICAN, Sydney Peace Foundation, local activists in refugee support, planetary health … ) and much more.

We think these are good reasons to hold a Day of Peace: hope you do too.

Do you want to do more on the issue of nuclear weapons?

Become a Nuclear Weapon Ban Advocate.

Three out of four people want the Australian Government to sign and ratify the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, but it hasn’t happened yet.

Reach out to your state/territory parliamentarians, or federal parliamentarians. As an advocate and local constituent, you will get to know the views and position of your representatives as you urge them to work for Australia’s ratification of the nuclear weapon ban treaty. You will be involved in direct advocacy to help end nuclear weapons.
